Your clients come to you first with their legal concerns because they trust and respect you. However, no attorney has the capacity to help every current and former client with all of their potential legal claims. It is often necessary and appropriate to seek the assistance of another attorney, but doing so requires care; your referral reflects not only on that attorney, but on you. The Ericksen Firm welcomes the opportunity to assist your clients with complex claims in Matthew’s areas of expertise.
The Ericksen Firm intentionally limits its practice to the litigation of civil rights violation matters and serious personal injury cases. This focus is one of the reasons we are able to achieve superior results for our clients. Attorney Matthew A. Ericksen, Sr. spent over a decade earlier in his career defending these types of cases at respected Atlanta-area firms. He founded The Ericksen Firm in order to represent the victims of serious personal injury accidents and civil rights violations. Matthew’s decision to narrowly focus his practice has enabled him to cultivate further depth of experience in the complexities of these areas of the law. Attorneys who practice in adjacent areas, such as criminal defense or family law, often seek out The Ericksen Firm when their clients’ civil rights have been violated or they are dealing with a major personal injury case.
A frequent scenario we encounter involves an individual who has been charged with a crime and subjected to excessive police force and/or other violations of their civil rights. A general practice attorney may be very well-positioned to defend the client against the criminal charges, but not to file a civil suit for damages for federal civil rights violations. The Ericksen Firm can aggressively pursue those complex claims on a client’s behalf in federal court, ensuring the best possible chance of a positive legal outcome. Matthew primarily practices in Georgia but through the pro hac vice process he is available to assist attorneys and clients on a nationwide scale when trying to address serious civil rights violations.
