Attorney Matthew A. Ericksen, Sr. is the founder and owner of the Ericksen Firm. He established the practice with one goal: to use his extensive legal experience and passion for the benefit of people who have been seriously harmed, either by governmental actors or by another person’s negligent conduct.

Matthew graduated from Duke University, and then from Emory University School of Law in 2009. Early in his career, he worked as a prosecutor in Clayton County, Georgia and gained his first experience as a trial lawyer. Matthew then transitioned to civil practice and began working for a respected Atlanta defense firm. During his years at that firm, he developed his litigation skills in the defense of police and municipalities accused of wrongdoing. Matthew became an expert in handling 42 U.S.C. § 1983 cases, i.e. federal civil rights litigation. He then transitioned to a different insurance defense firm that concentrated its practice in representing insurers and corporations in personal injury litigation. In that capacity Matthew successfully represented Fortune 500 clients and other defendants in personal injury litigation arising from premises liability accidents and car accidents.

After working as a defense attorney for over a decade Matthew made the personal decision to found The Ericksen Firm and direct his time, energy, and expertise to helping injured persons. Matthew uses his unique experience and extensive litigation skills to help victims of civil rights violations and injury victims. Having worked in the past to defend those cases, he is aware of the tactics used by defense attorneys and the critical details upon which cases succeed or fail. He is committed to offering respect, responsive service, and aggressive advocacy to clients who have suffered injury and mistreatment.

In 2022 Matthew was recognized by his alma mater Emory University with the prestigious “40 Under Forty” award. Honorees are chosen from the pool of over 150,000 alumni and Emory University’s “40 Under Forty” awards program spotlights selected alumni for having made a significant impact in business, research, leadership, public service and/or philanthropic endeavors.

Matthew represents victims of civil rights violations throughout the United States and injury victims in the Atlanta Metro area and throughout Georgia.
